Diabetes Prevention tips

Mayo Clinic provides a few great tips for preventing type 2 diabetes, summarized in the flyer on the right.

It recommends:

- Losing 5-7% of body weight if you have prediabetes (this can greatly reduce risk for diabetes)
- Getting 150 minutes or more of physical activity each week (this can be brisk walking, running, strength training, etc.)
- Adding more fruits and non-starchy vegetables in your diet
- Choosing healthy fats over saturated ones (healthy fats can come from foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, and certain fish such as salmon)
- Limiting saturated fat by choosing low-fat dairy products and lean meat
